About Me

A Gal Who Likes to Write

Who Am I?

I am a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist in my 30s.
I also have a BS.c in Biology, with a minor in psychology. I have a passion for writing, and all things health and wellness. My favourite wellness hack (presently): mouth taping!

What I Do

I write blog posts about products, services, and technology in the health and wellness niche. I help get information out there, so that people can make better informed decisions about their health.

Where It All Started…

Hi, I’m Amy. I started working on this blog as a side project in March of 2023. I have always been a passionate reader ever since I was a child.

As a result of my devouring such large volumes of text, I found words came easily to me.

As I progressed through life, my attentions went from fiction novels to self-help books, articles, and eventually, scientific texts.

Words hold incredible value. Particularly in the arena of health.

Flashback To Grade 6

I fell in love with science in the sixth grade, when my teacher had us do a series of experiments proving that air takes up space and is not just something invisible.

The concept that air is made up of molecules blew my eleven-year- old mind.

Science instantly became my favorite subject.

Fast forward to high-school and I found myself excelling in my science courses, particularly biology.

Education

It was then I decided to go into the science program at the University of Alberta. I majored in biology, with many of my 3rd and 4th year classes in molecular biology and genetics. I minored in psychology.

Afterwards, I went into an accelerated program in medical imaging technology at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), and graduated as a certified MRI Technologist with honours.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) Practicum

Throughout my schooling, I worked full time at several practicum sites in Calgary, Alberta.

This included the Alberta Children’s Hospital, South Health Campus, and Rockyview General Hospital.

This gave me a ton of hands-on experience with inpatients in critical conditions, including children, as well as outpatients.

Career

I graduated from NAIT in 2016 and landed a job in British Columbia (with Vancouver Coastal Health, VCH).

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)

I worked at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) and Jimmy Pattison Outpatient centre from 2016-2020.
Surrey is one of the largest municipalities in Canada.

At SMH we dealt with many critically ill patients from the Intensive Care Unit and performed a variety of different diagnostic scans.

This included breast biopsies, abdomen studies, paediatric studies, neurology, and more.

SMH is one of the hospitals in our area that is pandemic-prepared.

So naturally, our operations continued throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

During this time I also did a quick side-hustle job as a health monitor for and up and coming TV Show called “Dead Boy Detectives” .

I was on set making sure the crew was following proper personal protective equipment protocols.

In March of 2022 I landed a job with a rather unique start up company that does preventative whole body MRI scans. I decided to move on from my previous job at the hospital as I was drawn to the innovative nature of this job.

I have gotten tons of hands- on experience and further training in my field.

We have an AI department as well as ongoing research to turn diagnostic MRI Imaging from something that is reactive to a preventative tool.

This job has also provided further training and experience in reading MRI images. As such, I now have an eye for quickly scrolling through MRI images and spotting potential pathology.

This job has also given me the opportunity to read through and comprehend a variety of diagnostic medical reports.

My Aim For This Blog

A lot of my spare reading time is now spent on literature that focuses on preventative health, general health improvement, and disease prevention.

I have read many blogs in which I have come across valuable information that I was able to implement in my own life.

I have come across products, services, and lifestyle changes that I now use daily to improve my energy and vitality. Many of these came through the blogging platform.

Naturally, my appreciation for blogging has inspired me to start one myself.

In conclusion, it is my dream to put my writing passion to use, along with knowledge I have gained over my schooling and career.

Overall, I hope to help people connect with products, services, and information that can make a difference.
